Section 6: For Our School Systems

Join with us today and pray our prepared prayer on page 66 from the FORTY DAYS OF PRAYER FOR EDUCATION free eBook.

A DAILY DESK PRAYER
-by Toni Young

Dear Heavenly Father,

Lord, to You I commit this day and every child I teach.
I give to You my mind and lessons,
but more so Lord, my speech.
Tune my heart to sing Your praise,
whether things seem up or down.
I, am Your student. You are my teacher.
So I lay down every crown.

In Jesus' name,
Amen

Our Prayer...and Life as Incense

You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy.
 Exodus 30:35 NKJV

Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.  And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand.
Revelation 8:3-4 NKJV

I truly believe if God kept a logbook of prayers rendered by educators in these final weeks of test preparations, testing, and maintaining sanity, He would run out of pages.  Folks who haven't prayed aaallll year, somehow find the time to bow their heads or look up to the ceiling in desperation.
"Jesus, please help this child pass this test."
"Lord, give me strength."
"Jesus take the wheel!"
"God, I can't take this anymore!"
"Lord, are You SURE I'm in the right profession?"

The bible often associates incense and prayer together.  King David said, "May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hand as the evening sacrifice."- Psalm 141:2  He knew that to God our prayers are a sweet aroma that come from the blended spices of our faith, trust, obedience and reverence in Him.  In the Old Testament, God gave Moses the specific ingredients to blend the incense which would be placed on His most holy altar.  Because of its sacredness, the entire list of ingredients has never been written down, but passed on from one generation of selected priests to the next.  God also directed that this incense be salted, pure and holy.

We, as Christian educators are to give off a pleasing aroma not only to God through our prayers, but as the Apostle Paul mentioned in 2 Corinthians 4, this aroma, whether good or bad, will be released to those around us. "Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.  For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life."  Therefore, His Old Testament directive for the incense to be salted, pure and holy is nothing new from what He's asked from us as His New and Now Testament believers.  He's called us to be the "salt of the earth".  He's told us to "be holy as He is holy".  More importantly, He promised that those of us who are "pure in heart" having received Him as our Lord and Savior, will see Him.

This kind of lifestyle, the salted, pure and holy lifestyle, directs the intensity and depth of our prayer life. It leads us to pray, not just for the student who is giving us trouble, but for their parents. It calls us to seek God for how to pray for a specific situation. It strengthens us to pray without ceasing for things others have long given up on as hopeless causes. Ultimately, it creates its own special aroma of love and compassion that others cannot emit.

While the incense making procedure involves a lot of plucking, pounding, grounding and sifting...
and the burning outlook isn't too pleasing either...

our God will use the situations of this school year to develop a one of a kind scent generated from our attitudes and actions.   Truthfully, in my classroom, on many a day I am greeted with the pungent "tang" of little bodies blooming into puberty.  With my left eye twitching and my nostrils flaring, I press through to the end of the day. This permeating smell is real and offensive, but so is the smell of  our disrespect, arrogance, and unbelief (and the list could go on) to God.

                                              Soooooooo...

How's YOUR scent?

             or

Have blessed school week and stay fresh! lol

The Lord is with you and you are loved,

Toni

Forty Days of Prayer for Education: Day 33

Section 6: For Our School Systems

Join with us today and pray our prepared prayer on pages 58 and 59 for teachers from the FORTY DAYS OF PRAYER FOR EDUCATION free eBook  and enjoy the accompanying song entitled,  Anoint Me Lord, by Vicki Yohe.

This prayer was submitted and read aloud at an Educators Prayer Breakfast held September 27, 2014 by one of our prayer leaders, Ms. Linda Nicholson.

Almighty God, I set myself in agreement with the Word of God and with what You once established in American education. I release my hope and faith in Your Word. I patiently expect Your glory to manifest in schools all across our nation.

Artwork by Vanessa Renee Williams
I come before You on behalf of the students, educators and administrators of the entire educational system in America. Lord Jesus, I ask You to restore honor, integrity, virtue and peace in American classrooms. I confess Isaiah 53:13, “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Every time I hear a report of violence and terror in our schools, I will say out loud, “Our children are taught of the Lord and great is peace and the anointing of them!”

And Jesus, You and I know the educators and the administrators cannot teach and run our schools without You and Your anointing. So, I intercede and give thanks for those You have ordained and placed in positions of authority and responsibility in our schools across America. I believe for Your anointing to be in them and upon them.

I am not waiting until I see the Spirit of God moving in this situation. I am starting my confession now! Combine my faith with those who are also praying and believing for the wisdom, honor, strength, wealth power and glory of God to be demonstrated in our school systems.

I am releasing my faith for the next generation!

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the redemptive work You are doing in our schools and in the people who run them. The students and teachers are on your heart and they are on mine too. Our schools will be a joy, a praise, and a glory before all nations of the earth! Nations will fear God and tremble because of all the goodness, peace, prosperity, security and stability You have provided to us.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Roll Me Up and Call Me Curly, That's Our Old Teacher!

This past Mother's Day I traveled eastward down the highway to visit my parents...alone. This solitary trip, minus my three "mini-me's", was my Mother's Day gift from my husband, and I loved it. This gift ranked right up there with last year's gift.

*You'll have to read page 142 of my book to find out what it was (smile).     Anyway, I digress...

As the day began to wind down, I decided to visit my aunt who was in a rehabilitation facility.  Much like old times, my sister, who also tried to do a solo trip (unsuccessfully I might add),  and I piled in a van with our dad and my niece to go visit the "sick and shut in".  After arriving there, we tipped quietly through the halls until we got to my auntie's room.

Since my aunt was sharing a room, we had to wait a bit after knocking to make sure everyone was decent. I rocked back on my heels and peered around the hall and locked eyes with an elderly lady propped up in her bed directly across the hall from my aunt.
"Hello", I waved.
"Love your shirt!", she replied.
I looked at the name plate near her door so that I could reply with a bit more personal "thank you" and felt a jolt when I read the name.  I jabbed my sister in the ribs.
"Do you see that name?" I whispered.
"Yup!", she whispered back.

I hailed the nurse who was getting ready to enter the room and asked her if she knew if they lady inside had been a teacher at my former high school.  She shrugged, but said she'd inquire.   My ears grew large as I anticipated the reply. There was no denying that face.  It had to be her.
"Why yes.  I did teach at Warwick High School!", the elderly woman in the bed exclaimed.  Well roll me up and call me Curly.  My sister and I did everything but give each other high fives and made our way into the room.

There she was, our twelfth grade English teacher, Mrs. Williams. Although my sister and I had her six years apart, she was still an icon in both of our books. She came from the time that female teachers wore dresses and skirts and English teachers corrected your English mid sentence.  She was from dignity, closed doors to "tell you a thing or two", chalk dust and essays about the American Flag.  She was there when we got there and there when we left.
As we sat there filling in each other on the past twenty five years, I couldn't help but recall my reluctance towards writing in her class.  Amazingly, she  did remember a Julius Caesar project of mine (it was very original and apparently never to be duplicated).  Consequently I felt I had to apologize for not giving her my best, but "Hey", I quipped, "I wrote a book!"

I walked out of her room a half an hour later with an intense euphoric sensation. However, I wasn't the only one to be blessed by that encounter. While it felt great to express to someone else that their hard work was not in vain, my dad finally got that parent teacher conference he wanted and Mrs. Williams received a twenty five and thirty year old "thank you" from two former students on a day in which she exclaimed she had been feeling really down.

I guess I said all of that to say this;  you never know where or when you will meet your former students later in life. Love them now as if they were your own.   Invest in them now for a awesome return of love in the future.  It will come exactly when you need it.

Have a blessed week!

Mrs. Williams, If you get a chance to read this blog, this verse is for you.  Luke 6:40  “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”   Thank you again and get well soon.
